Find answers to common questions about Inning Wizard

Getting Started

Inning Wizard is a baseball and softball lineup generator that creates fair, balanced lineups for youth teams. Enter your roster, set your innings, click generate — and you'll have a lineup where every kid rotates through positions and gets equal playing time. No spreadsheets, no guesswork.

1. Sign up or log in to your account
2. Go to your Dashboard and click "Create New Team" (or select an existing team)
3. Enter your players' names
4. Set the number of innings and positions
5. Click "Generate Lineups" - that's it!

Our algorithm considers multiple factors to create balanced lineups:
- Rotating players through infield and outfield positions
- Balancing bench time across all players
- Varying batting order positions over multiple games
- Tracking historical data to ensure long-term fairness across a season

Teams & Rosters

The Free plan supports up to 12 players per roster. Paid plans (Individual, Rec Group, League) support up to 16 players.

Yes! When you generate lineups, you can save your roster. On paid plans, you can also save multiple games per season and track player statistics over time.

Simply uncheck the absent players before generating your lineup. Inning Wizard will create a balanced lineup with the available players while maintaining fairness for those who are present.

Importing Rosters (CSV)

Yes. On the lineup generator page, click the "Import CSV" button next to "Paste Names" and "Manual Entry." Select a CSV file from your computer and the importer will auto-detect columns like player name and jersey number. It works with exports from all major team management platforms.

The importer auto-detects column headers, so it works with CSV exports from virtually any platform. It has been tested with exports from all major team management platforms, as well as Google Sheets, Excel, and custom spreadsheets. As long as your file has a header row with a recognizable name column (like "Name", "First Name" + "Last Name", or "Player Name"), it will work.

Required: A player name column. This can be a single "Name" column or separate "First Name" and "Last Name" columns.

Optional: Jersey number (headers like "Jersey Number", "Number", or "#" are all recognized). Any extra columns (email, position, birthday, etc.) are simply ignored — they won't cause errors.

For league admins doing a bulk import: Add a "Team" column (required) and optionally "Division" and "Season" columns. Each row is one player on one team.

League admins (Rec Group and League tiers) can import all teams and players at once:

1. Go to League Admin
2. Click "Import Rosters (CSV)" in the Teams section
3. Select your season
4. Upload a CSV with columns for Team, Player Name, and optionally Jersey Number and Division
5. Review the preview showing all teams and players
6. Click "Import Rosters"

If your CSV includes division names that don't exist yet, they'll be created automatically. You can also download a template CSV from the import page to see the exact format.

The importer will load the first players up to your plan's limit (12 for Free, 16 for paid plans) and show a message about how many were trimmed. You won't lose any data in your original file — just re-import after upgrading if you need more.

Yes. The importer auto-detects whether your file uses commas, tabs, or semicolons as delimiters. It also handles quoted fields (like names with commas in them, e.g., "Smith, Jr.").

Yes, you can change your plan at any time. If you upgrade, you'll have immediate access to the new features. If you downgrade, your current features will remain until the end of your billing period.

League & Rec Group Administration

1. Subscribe to the Rec Group or League tier
2. Go to League Admin from your Dashboard
3. Click "Create Organization" and enter your league/group name
4. Add divisions (optional for Rec Group, recommended for League)
5. Create teams and invite coaches

1. Go to League Admin
2. Find the team you want to add a coach to
3. Click "+ Invite Coach"
4. Enter their email and select their role (Head Coach or Assistant Coach)
5. Share the invitation link with them

The coach will receive a link to accept the invitation and gain access to their team.

League admins can invite co-admins who have the same access to the League Admin page — they can manage teams, divisions, seasons, and invite coaches. This is useful for larger organizations where different people oversee different divisions.

1. Go to League Admin
2. Find the League Admins section near the top
3. Click "Invite Admin"
4. Enter their email address and send the invitation

Co-admins do not need a paid subscription of their own — they inherit access through your organization. Only the organization owner can invite or remove co-admins.

Co-Admin (League Admin): Full access to the League Admin page — can manage all teams, divisions, seasons, and invite coaches across the entire organization. Cannot invite other co-admins (owner only).

Head Coach / Team Manager: Full access to their team — edit the roster, generate lineups, manage team settings, and invite assistant coaches. Head Coach and Team Manager are the same permissions; the title is your choice.

Assistant Coach: Can generate, save, and edit lineups; view game history; and export games. Inherits the team owner's tier features for game actions. Cannot edit the roster, delete games, change team settings, or invite other coaches.

Seasons help you organize games and track player statistics over time. League administrators can create seasons (like "Spring 2025") that apply to all teams. Coaches then save their games to the active season for historical tracking and fairness calculations.

Using Inning Wizard

Yes. On the results page, you can drag and drop players to reorder the batting order, and drag inning columns to rearrange them. This works on phones and tablets too — just tap and drag. The algorithm gets you most of the way there, and you make the final adjustments.

Players will take turns sitting out each inning. Inning Wizard spreads bench time evenly so no kid sits more than anyone else. Over the course of a game, everyone gets roughly equal playing time.

Yes — that's one of the best features. When you save a game, the next time you generate a lineup it automatically factors in where every player has already played. Over a season, this means every kid ends up with balanced time across all positions.

Yes. Position preferences let you assign preferred positions to specific players — for example, your strongest arm behind the plate. That player will be placed in their preferred position for at least one inning, while the rest of the roster rotates freely. Available on all plans, including Free.

Yes. All paid plans come with a 14-day free trial. You can cancel anytime.

Click "Manage Subscription" on your dashboard. This opens your Stripe billing portal where you can cancel, update your payment method, or view invoices. If you cancel, you'll keep access through the end of your billing period.

Technical Questions

Yes. Inning Wizard works on any phone, tablet, or computer — nothing to install. You can generate and adjust lineups right from the dugout on game day.

Yes, you can print lineups directly from the results page. All plans include clean, print-ready lineups.

CSV export is available on paid plans (Individual, Rec Group, League). Free plan users can print lineups directly from the results page.
